John Mollozzi - NYC Field Trip

Empire Outlets Logo in the courtyard
This Wednesday, our Graphic Design class took a field trip to downtown Manhattan and Staten Island to view real examples of graphic design in the city. We saw a variety of ads, logos, and signs during our trip, the one that caught my eye most, was the Empire Outlets logo. This was a great example of the graphic design trend of Environmental- meaning that the text/logo is being made up from its surroundings. This applies to the Empire Outlets logo because it was made up of shrubbery, and assorted decorative flowers in the courtyard of the mall. To me the logo’s appearance stood out, it contrasted the dull gray and whites of the building surrounding it. As a result of the efficient use of graphic design trends, the logo succeeded in its goal to be memorable.
